Statement by RA NA Ara Babloyan
1 / 1

Dear citizens, dear compatriots of the Republic of Armenia,

In recent days numerous citizens raise their protest voice in the streets and squares aimed at the power of the Republic of Armenia. These kinds of revelations of protest are characteristic to democratic states.

Dear compatriots, I have followed all the events in detail, the procedure of the rallies, the steps taken by the organizers and law enforcement bodies and their rhetoric. Unfortunately, in some cases law infringements, cases of other persons’ violation of laws, towards whom the power has always shown balanced attitude; often going to compromises. Many exhortations to negotiate, organize discussions and depriving the situation from intensification were sounded from different international platforms, Diaspora, civil society, numerous political forces, as well as power. The President of the Republic personally visited the heated platform of dissatisfaction and personally urged the RA NA deputy Nikol Pashinyan to sit for political dialogue. The meeting of the RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan and the MP Nikol Pashinyan followed it. Unfortunately, after this last meeting it became evident that Nikol Pashinyan was not intended for political discussions, compromises directed to the solution of the problem which would give an opportunity to prevent the possible grave consequences, to calm down the situation and to begin constructive work. In this situation, when refusing the political dialogue, choosing everything or nothing tactics, the organizers and leaders of the protest demonstrations should realize that by all further developments, including the gravest, take on their shoulders and bear adequate responsibility.

Thus, assessing the created situation, realizing the obligation of the state to establish order, I call on you to show common sense, evaluate everybody’s constitutional rights, obligations and sit around the table of debates.

I am sure that the Republic of Armenia has political and legal all tools for reaching smooth and reasonable solution.

I call on our citizens, all political forces, our sisters and brother, our sons and young people for restraint and tolerance.

I believe in our people’s wisdom.

RA NA President Ara Babloyan
